Florida Department of Law Enforcement Helps Public Find Local Sex Offenders

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement improved it's state website sex offenders to make it even easier for parents and other Florida residents to find a local sex offender. The FDLE allows searchers to find sex offenders near schools, specific neighborhoods, postal codes, counties, cities, or names.

The FDLE is reputed to be one of the largest in it's kind with 35,000 registered sex offenders and predators.

"Our system makes it easy for individuals to find a sex offender within 5 miles of any speciifc location," claimed a department spokesperson.

The system includes copious information about each offender, and the ability to print handy quick reference flyers for sharing with friends and neighbors. In addition to their names, their aliases, nice photos, their status, (Supervised / Released), their address, whether it is temporary or residence, previous addresses, the date they informed the state. It includes specifics on their race, sex, hair, and eyes, height weight, and if they have any scars, marks or tattoos, for example "Tattoo right arm: Upper Bird". The site also includes information about their qualifying offenses, such as "Lewd Or Lascivious Molestation Victim 12-15 Years Old Offender 18 Or Older (Principal)", "Lewd,Lascivious Child U / 16 (Principal)", "Sex Asslt-Other / Other State (Second Degree Sexual Assault (Wisconsin))", or "Lewd Aslt / Sex Bat Vctm under 16 (Principal)"

Here is a count of sex offenders available in several counties in September of 2005:

• Alachua (including Gainesville, Hawthorne and Alachua) - 315 total
• Citrus - 188 Sex offenders on file
• Duval (including Jacksonville, and Atlantic Beach) - 1497 total
• Miami-Dade - 1981 on file
• Franklin - 23 on file
• Palm Beach (including Boynton Beach, Lake Worth, West Palm Beach, and Delray Beach) - 801 total
• Santa Rosa (including Gulf Breeze, Holt, Milton, and Navarre) - 210 total
• Volusia - 671 total
• Wakulla (including Crawfordville) - 65 total
• Walton - 79 total
• Washington - 42 total
